International academic conferences can be exciting opportunities for learning, networking, and professional growth. However, the practical skills required to navigate them — from selecting the right conference to confidently presenting your work and building meaningful connections — are rarely taught formally. Much of this knowledge is shared informally, leaving many early-career researchers feeling underprepared or overwhelmed.
Going Global is designed to bridge this gap by offering practical, experience-based guidance on attending and presenting at international academic conferences with confidence and clarity.
The skills needed to successfully participate in international conferences are often learned through trial and error. This workshop aims to make that process more accessible by sharing practical insights, strategies, and lessons that are typically unavailable through formal academic training.
Whether you are preparing for your first international conference or looking to improve your experience at future events, this workshop will help you navigate the process more effectively and confidently.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Understand the practical aspects of attending international conferences, including memberships, funding opportunities, travel preparation, and logistics
Identify and select conferences that align with their academic and professional goals
Develop strategies for writing abstracts that resonate with international academic audiences
Practice introducing themselves and their research clearly and confidently
Prepare effectively before the conference, engage meaningfully during sessions and networking opportunities, and follow up professionally afterward
Build professional and collaborative relationships from brief conference interactions
Navigate professional conversations with greater confidence and reduced anxiety
Differentiate credible academic conferences from predatory conferences
Dr. Antara Thakur holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Mumbai and brings over eight years of experience in therapy, research, training, supervision, and mentoring early-career professionals. She has worked with iCALL-TISS as both a counsellor and supervisor, where she also contributed to the development of training modules. She has served as a peer reviewer for an APA journal and is a recipient of the ECPN Travel Award from the Society for Prevention Research (SPR), USA. Her work has been presented at several national and international conferences, including two in-person presentations in the United States in 2025, and she has published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Thakur is the founder of AntarSparsh, an online psychotherapy and mental health service, and co-founder of Unsaid Baatein, a support-group initiative focused on mental health conversations. Having recently navigated the international conference experience herself, she created Going Global to share the practical guidance and insights she wished she had received earlier in her own academic journey.
This workshop is open to:
Bachelor’s and Master’s students in Psychology
PhD scholars in the humanities at any stage of their academic journey
Professionals and anyone else considering a career in academia
Whether you are planning to present internationally for the first time or have attended conferences before but felt underprepared, this workshop is designed to support your growth and confidence as an emerging academic professional.

The workshop is being offered at a highly subsidised fee to the most deserving researchers who can contribute to India’s research ecosystem in the coming years.
