Workshop on Qualitative Research Methods in the Social Sciences

What are Qualitative Research Methods?

The qualitative approach to research in the social sciences ranges from conducting personal interviews to studying entire towns and cities. This approach combines a variety of methods and starting points to examine and draw inferences from the social world we live in. In this workshop we will be learning about development sector qualitative research and managing a research team on the field.

Why Do You Need it?

  • Learn more about the details of a qualitative research approach in different contexts.

  • Gain knowledge of contexts and how to use the appropriate research method.

  • Understand development-based research and field research.

  • Learn from the resource persons and peers about different types of qualitative research conducted.

  • Share your own experience and gain insight into improving your own research study.

  • Become part of an active and dynamic research community in India.

How do we teach Qualitative Research?

The workshop will provide participants with hands-on experience in working and engaging with a range of Qualitative Research Methods in a simple yet practical manner. Practice scenarios as well as anecdotes from the field will be used to help with building qualitative skills and techniques. Participants can also gain insights into managing a research team on the field, navigating ethical concerns while conducting research, and look at research during COVID-19 in India.
