Prayogshala’s Policy on AI use
At Monk Prayogshala, we support the responsible and ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research. Our policy ensures that AI enhances productivity and creativity without compromising academic integrity, originality, or rigour. We actively leverage tools such as Julius, Elicit, and GPTZero to foster transparent, innovative, and ethically sound academic research. These platforms play a critical role in our research workflow.
Julius is an AI-powered transcription and analysis tool that we use during research projects. It helps transcribe interviews, focus groups, and field recordings with high accuracy, allowing researchers to extract insights more efficiently and focus on interpretation rather than manual processing.
Elicit, developed by Ought, is an AI research assistant that further speeds up the often time-consuming early stages of a research project. Additionally, GPTZero is a detection tool we employ to ensure the originality of written content. As we experiment with generative AI in drafting and summarizing, GPTZero allows us to verify that our final outputs retain academic integrity and are not overly reliant on AI-generated text.
By integrating such tools, we uphold rigorous research standards while advancing AI-enabled independent research in India. Our goal is to use AI responsibly—to accelerate discovery, support researchers, and elevate Indian independent research on the global stage, all while maintaining transparency, accountability, and ethical integrity.
Permitted Uses of AI
Idea Generation: AI tools may assist in brainstorming research questions or exploring interdisciplinary links. Final concepts must reflect the researcher’s own intellectual contribution.
Literature Summarization: Tools like ChatGPT or Elicit may be used to summarize literature, provided the material is thoroughly vetted and properly cited.
Language Editing: Applications such as Grammarly or Hemingway are permitted for refining grammar and clarity, but should not substantially alter or generate original content.
Data Analysis and Visualization: AI-assisted tools can support code generation and analysis. However, all data must be reviewed carefully, and sensitive data should not be uploaded without prior approval.
Research Communication: AI tools may assist in drafting infographics, press summaries, and public-facing content, which must be reviewed and edited by the researcher.
Proposal Structuring: Visual planning tools may be supported by AI, but all core content must be independently written.
SEO and Social Media: The Communications Team may use AI tools to enhance outreach, messaging, and engagement strategies.
