When a misfortune befalls a person, the observer experiences diverse emotions. At times, they feel sympathy or even empathy for the person suffering. But other times, they may derive pleasure out of their suffering. In this article, I explore this oft-cited and commonly experienced antithesis to the feeling of empathy– Schadenfreude and its socio-psychological foundations.

Throughout history and across cultures, humans have shown a tendency to believe in a supposedly all-powerful agent: God. Though the study of God through Theology is not new, modern-day attitudes towards it have changed. Today, approximately 500 to 750 million people, identifying as atheists, question the existence of God and the human belief in it. By discussing the possible reasons and consequences of this belief, this article aims to provide a better understanding of the concept of God and religion through the lens of Psychology.
