The preceding month has been marked by two distinct but highly significant events- the declaration of demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes on the 8 th of November and the death of J. Jayalalithaa, the iconic former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. However, the two events have resulted in different responses in terms of collective action. This article looks into what drives collective action and why predicting the same is imperative for public policy
